Radiation Exposure
In December of 2009, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it has issued interim recommendations to address concerns about excess radiation exposure in medical facilities.
Lake Medical Imaging & Vascular Institute has been employing these and other safeguards to protect our patients for years.
- We adhere to the principle of "ALARA," or, As Low as Reasonably Allowable, for all radiation exposures.
- Ours is the only imaging center in Lake County to use breast shields for our female CT patients.
- Our Women's Centers utilize digital mammography, which produces 22% less radiation than film.
- In addition, our Radiologists and staff minimize and keep track of pediatric radiation in accordance with the "Image Gently Alliance" of the Society for Pediatric Radiology.
- Lake Medical Imaging is the only diagnostic imaging center in Central Florida to offer all of our CT patients a Personal Radiation Record to keep track of the date and amount of exposure, should they require multiple exams.
- Our radiation protocols and state-of-the-art equipment keep exposure to a minimum.
- All of our equipment is checked by a certified Medical Physicist on a regular basis.
- Our 20 Radiologists are Board Certified by the American College of Radiology.
- All equipment and facilities are fully accredited by the ACR, which requires adherence to the highest standards and criteria.
So, when your physician orders a diagnostic exam to complete your diagnosis and/or treatment, you can rest assured that the Radiologists and staff at Lake Medical Imaging & Vascular Institute will take every possible precaution to protect you.
Please review the patient information links below for more detailed information about mammography screening and radiation safety.
